The real reason Megaupload was taken down was because it was about to introduce a new music service called Megabox. Megabox would have let artists sell their music directly to users and let them keep 90% of the earnings. You can check out the links above for more info on that. This was huge. This was the major reason the US government went after Kim Dotcom and his company even though he wasn't even an American and his company is not based in the US. It's just ridiculous.
