I just saw this video of Neil deGrasse Tyson on YouTube talking about 2012 and "planet Niburu" where he says that all of this is just fiction:
I never really knew what to make of his show until I saw it yesterday, for the first time in a while and as I was watching his show just before the end they had a message that said something like "This show is possible because of funding by..." and then it showed an Exxon Mobil ad, then after that a Merill Lynch ad. Now I know what to make of his show.
Tyson explained the reasons why Pluto was demoted from planet to dwarf planet status, as well as discussing the hate mail he received from third graders for taking this stance. The state of New Mexico, where the discoverer of Pluto was from, is apparently also not pleased - they have passed a state law that within the borders of New Mexico, Pluto is a planet regardless of what astronomers classify it as. (In the 1800s, my home state of Indiana passed a similar law, stating that pi had a value of 3. It is a shameful period in our history.)
